I love discovering new places to find recipes and cooking gear that will aid in my culinary attempts!

This week I dove into homemade barbeque sauce.  When I originally intended on making boneless BBQ ribs, I planned on pouring Famous Dave’s Rich & Sassy BBQ sauce over my ribs, sticking them in my crock pot and calling it good.  As much as I love My Rich & Sassy sauce, I wanted to give making my own BBQ sauce a try.

My recipe is literally a combination of ideas from multiple recipes, so this is my own concoction.  The Hubs loves a little bit of a kick, so consider this recipe a little bit, “tangy.”

Tangy Homemade Barbeque Sauce
Recipe by browneyes_24b @ The White Blue Sky

Ingredients:
2 pounds boneless pork ribs
1 cup of ketchup
6 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons white distilled vinegar
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon fresh ground mustard seed
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
pinch of salt and pepper
1/2 cup chili sauce (or to your taste)

Directions
Place boneless ribs on baking sheet.  Add fresh ground black pepper on top of ribs as desired and bake for 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

While ribs are baking, combine all other ingredients in mixing bowl.  Mix well.

When ribs are finished baking, transfer them to slow cooker.  Pour barbecue mixture over ribs.  Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or until tender.

Culinary success!  I am so excited that this actually worked and tasted good!  The ribs were ultra tender from cooking in the slow cooker.  I think the use of fresh ground mustard, cayenne and crushed red pepper made all the difference in the world.  The Hubs and I ate all the ribs and I can guarantee the recipe has been added to my personal collection of recipes to try again.

The next time I make this, instead of using ketchup I plan on using fresh tomatoes.  I like the idea of fresh ingredients, so that is the only thing I would change!
